A Millennial’s Nightmare: There’s NOT an App for That

It’s 2018 and in the eyes of Millennials, inconvenience is out, apps are in. Companies are wise to understand this. Those who capitalize on apps will earn the Millennial dollar while those who don’t will be ignored. Today convenience, value and worth fully come in the form of mobile.

It has become the norm to anticipate an app from each business we interact with. Apps allow us to stay home, avoid lines, skip websites, make quick purchases and have easy access to content. All things that save us time and energy - and what’s better than that? The areas in which Millennials especially want apps for when spending money include shopping and food ordering, event and travel booking, and membership management.

When it comes to shopping, Millennials will do anything to avoid a trip to the store. While we still love shopping, we prefer doing so from the comfort of our couch. From clothing to groceries, almost anything can now be ordered from an app. With the explosion of two-day and even same-day delivery, there isn’t much that deters us from purchasing through mobile. And when we want to order food, who has time for lines? There's nothing more satisfying than typing in your order and breezing past a long line minutes later knowing you're food is ready, you've already paid, and all you need to do is grab it.

Booking events and travel is a necessary function to have on hand. There’s important confirmations and updates associated with these purchases that can get lost in emails when they’re processed through websites. One central place for all accompanying information is needed in order to optimize the experience and smoothly get to where you're going.

Whether it’s a simple gym membership or that of an association, having an app can determine if we’re either 1) enrolling in the first place or 2) sticking with it past a year. If it isn’t easy to locate schedules, news, updates, classes or events, how strong can our engagement be? There’s a lot members miss out on that they might not even be aware of due to lack of access.

Millennials like to make purchase decisions out of spontaneity and on the go. In order to do that, they need an app to quickly login to and buy on the fly before they change their minds, forget or the opportunity passes. The only way companies can even compete for this generation’s business is if they’re mobile. Whether or not ‘there’s an app for that’ can make all the difference.
